Since the establishment in 1992 of the Romanov Fund for Russia by initiative of several senior members of the Romanov family, the Fund has been instrumental in many charitable activities in the Russian Federation and in the CIS republics of Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
The year 2006 was a rather busy one for my wife Dorrit and myself, not just preparing an extensive charitable programme in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, but also by visiting a region that was so dear to my family.
In 1919 Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna, my father, his parents, many close relatives and thousands of Russians left Russia forever in tragic circumstances from the Crimean harbour of Yalta. Thus, visiting for the first time that enchanting region on a charitable mission also had a very emotional significance for me, aware that in a few months I would be sailing from Copenhagen to St Petersburg on a Danish warship bringing the earthly remains of Empress Maria Feodorovna back to Russia.
In July 2006 the XI Russian Summer Ball took place at the Cavalry & Guards Club in London and once again considerable funds were raised and donated to the Romanov Fund for Russia. My sincere thanks to the generous response from the sponsors and providers and to all the patrons and committee members, which made a substantial support to the activities of the Romanov Fund for Russia possible.
Thanks also to private donations received during the year, allowing our Fund to continue its philanthropic work successfully also in 2006.
I am now actively preparing the programs for our 2007 activities.
Prince Dimitri Romanov
